Increased interest in sale of non performing loan portfolios

23/06/2014

London-based illiquid markets specialist Agora Private Markets (“APM”) reports of a recent increase in enquiries from developers and investors in Irish and Spanish real estate for assistance in securing funding to purchase their non-performing loan portfolios from the banks. This increase is likely a result of many banks seeking to clean up their loan books as a result of increasing capital and liquidity requirements.

APM seeks to offer investors a secondary market exit, with the possibility of allowing them to continue to manage their portfolios and share in any potential upside with a buyer. APM believe this to be an attractive alternative for those investors seeking to avoid a bank foreclosing on the loans due to negative equity or other sort of underperformance.

Alex Wolters, founding partner of APM says: "Real estate investors find our service highly effective in maximising value. APM tailors the process with the client to ensure we meet their specific objectives in terms of the type of buyers, due diligence process, restrictions and timeline. Most importantly, APM takes away all the time-consuming process involved in running the sales process and follows through until completion, to everyone's satisfaction".

Agora Private Markets is an independent illiquid markets specialist whose core mandate is securing liquidity for clients invested in illiquid assets. APM's role is to find the most competitive bids available to allow their clients to maximize the value of their holdings. With experience across the illiquid and distressed market, APM has a history of trading a diverse range of illiquid assets, such as bankruptcy claims, real estate interests, secondary fund interests and loan books. APM can evaluate prices from a worldwide network of professional buyers to maximize value while working closely with their clients. They can ensure that the process is managed confidentially from start to finish, until funds are received and all administration, paperwork and the transfer of ownership is completed.
